Alexei Chekunkov, Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, is on a working visit to India. The Minister has held a series of meetings with Indian businesspeople in the Indian capital. On March 28, he will hold talks with a number of Indian Ministers.

The key issues on the Russian-Indian agenda are the development of friendly relations and the expansion of trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation in the Far East and the Arctic.

More than 20 executives and shareholders of Indian private and state-owned companies, including those from the top 100 largest national conglomerates, as well as representatives of industry business associations, took part in an extended meeting on March 27 in New Delhi.

The event was organized by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic and the Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation with the participation of the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, VEB.RF, and Rosatom.

During the meeting and negotiations on the sidelines of the business forum, the participants touched upon the issues of implementation of projects in tourism, development, pharmacology, mining, infrastructure construction, supply of machinery and equipment, food products. A number of Indian companies are considering the possibility of localizing production, both in the Far East and in the Arctic regions (in particular, in the Murmansk region). Furthermore, the prospects for developing transport and logistics links between the two countries, including the use of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic and Far East railway and port infrastructure, were discussed.
